Fireproof sealing

Fire compartments

Spread of fire is prevented by dividing a building into compartments. Such compartments are separated by fireproof walls, floors, ceilings and doors. The effectiveness of a compartment is determined by the fire resistance of all building elements. Fire resistance is the period in which building elements continue to maintain their functions.

In building regulations, fire resistance (Rf) is formulated as the time in which a building element maintains the criteria of stability, flame density and thermal insulation. Fire resistance should be minimally 30 minutes in order to be recognised as Rf level. The required Rf levels can range depending on the height of the building and the function of the compartment.

Bushings, joints and openings, pose a risk

Making compartments fireproof is of no use when the fire can still pass through the connecting bushings. Also joints that occur when placing the various construction parts and the openings that are included in the floors and walls for cables and cable ducts, plastic tubes, air ducts, etc., pose a risk. Fortunately, bushings can be sealed and/or protected with certified products. Depending on the construction, a fire resistance of no less than 240 minutes is feasible!

Applications

  • Cable channels, cable ducts, HVAC ductworks, tubes, etc.
  • Plastic tubes
  • Air ducts
  • Electricity and communication cables
  • Sewage systems

We are a solid partner in the field of fire-resistant sealings. The products that we work with comply with the following standards:

  • EN 13501-1;
  • DIN 4102-1;
  • EN 13501-2;
  • EN 1366-2;
  • EN 1366-3.

We have a solution for every application!

Fire dampers

With bushings from 100 mm, a fire damper is required. This fire damper slams shut in case of fire. We provide and assemble round and square fire dampers in various sizes. All fire dampers come with CE marking.

Bushing of pipes

Bushings of pipes (sanitary tubes, ventilation ducts and air ducts) are unavoidable in a building. At the same time, they pose a great risk with regard to fire safety because the pipes go straight through compartments and partition structures. This way, they create ‘leaks’ through which fire and smoke can spread quickly throughout the building. That is why bushings should be properly protected.

  • Plastic tubes immediately melt in case of fire. Because of openings in wall or ceiling, fire and smoke can spread to other compartments. The fire resistant protection of such bushings (also smaller than 25 mm) can prevent lots of damage.
  • With metal pipes you would expect less problems. Nothing could be further from the truth! Because metal is an excellent thermal conductor. In case of fire, the other side will soon be just as hot, so that materials can easily ignite. So metal pipes should also be protected against fire.

Preventing spread of fire

With professionally tested and approved systems, we will make sure that the spreading of fire in buildings and installations, is prevented.
